Perfume Oils/Attar
One of the first producers on record of Attars from botanical sources was a Persian physician named Hakim Ibn Sena. The oils he produced were for medicinal use. It is unclear where and when the distillation of botanical materials for their beautiful aroma began. There are many tales of how the jungle people of India, in the region known as Medhya Pradesh, came to recognize the beautiful scents from certain woods and plants after burning them in their winter fires, but this tale does not explain the discovery of distillation. There are other tales of Arabian and Oriental Queens recognizing the oils that gathered on their baths filled with flower petals in the mornings after a cool night and the aromatic scent these oils exuded.
